Eating Disorders - AnA BoNeS

Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia Nervosa is characterised by an individuals struggle to maintain their weight at or above a minimally normal level. This struggle is associated with an intense fear of weight gain and a disturbance in the way they perceive their weight and shape, eg. unable to identify the seriousness of low weight and the consequences it may have. Anorexia has many impacts on physical health - one of these is the absence of at least three consecutive cycles in females (amenorrhea). There are two main types of Anorexia Nervosa - these are restricting and binge-eating/purging type. The restricting type is characterised by a lack of regularly binge-eating or vomiting, misusing laxatives, diuretics or enemas. Instead this type primarily involves fasting/starvation and over exercise. The binge-eating/purging type is characterised by regular binge-eating or vomiting, misuse of laxatives, diuretics or enemas.

Bulimia nervosa
Bulimia Nervosa is characterised by binge eating. Binge eating involves eating in a discreet period of time (eg. 2 hours) that is more food than most people would eat in a similar time and circumstances. In addition, people often feel that they cannot stop eating or control what or how much they are eating during this time. Individuals with Bulimia then try and prevent weight gain following these episodes, using strategies such as vomiting, misusing laxatives, diuretics, enemas, fasting or excessive exercise. This binge eating and using of different strategies to cope will occur at least twice a week for three months. Individuals with Bulimia unduly evaluate themselves according to their body shape and weight. Bulimia can occur in individuals at normal body weight and during episodes of anorexia. There are two main types of Bulimia Nervosa - these are purging and non-purging type. The purging type is characterised by regularly inducing vomiting or misusing laxatives, diuretics or enemas. The non-purging type is characterised by using strategies such as fasting or excessive exercise. Use of vomiting, misuse of laxatives, diuretics and enemas are not regular.
EDNOS are disorders of eating that do not meet the criteria of any specific eating disorder. These may include:
  • all the criteria for Anorexia Nervosa met but individuals have regular manses;
  • all the criteria for Anorexia Nervosa met except that despite significant weight loss the current weight is in normal range;
  • all the criteria for Bulimia Nervosa met but binge eating and strategies to compensate for this are less often than twice a week or for less than 3 months;
  • regular use of compensatory strategies by an individual at normal weight after eating small amounts of food, eg. vomiting after eating two biscuits;
  • repeatedly chewing and spitting out but not swallowing large amounts of food;
  • Binge Eating Disorder (BED): episodes of binge eating without using strategies to compensate that are characteristic of Bulimia Nervosa.
All of these medical framing are true..Although we are an individual, and each of us one in kind , because of sources of our disease.

Technical Criteria for EDNOS

  1. All of the criteria for Anorexia Nervosa are met except the individual has regular manses.
  2. All of the criteria for Anorexia Nervosa are met except that, despite substantial weight loss, the individuals current weight is in the normal range.
  3. All of the criteria for Bulimia Nervosa are met except binges occur at a frequency of less than twice a week or for a duration of less than 3 months.
  4. An individual of normal body weight who regularly engages in inappropriate compensatory behavior after eating small amounts of food (eg, self-induced vomiting after the consumption of two cookies).
  5. An individual who repeatedly chews and spits out, but does not swallow, large amounts of food.
  6. Binge eating disorder; recurrent episodes of binge eating in the absence of the regular use of inappropriate compensatory behaviors characteristic of bulimia nervosa.

my last week has been really hard... I've got my school exams coming up and lately when I get stressed I start eating, alot.
It hasn't happened for a while and I can usual control it.. but my boyfriend and I just broke up and now I just can't help binging when I get home from school.
I feel so gross all the time that not even my dance classes can make me feel better about myself... and I dance alot.

How can I stop binging and regain my control?

i've never been thin, just plump and i hate my big breasts because they always make me look big and fat. hate hate. i used to be bulimic three years ago until my mom found out about me and sent me to the counselor what nots. After that I started eating regularly without feeling anything. Unfortunately, I found out that I gained 3kg and I'm trying to stop eating since but I'm surrounded by a family who eats . So i decided that throughout this process of increasingly losing weight, I need a lot of inspiration to get myself off food for a really long time. anyone please, help me. I'm so desperate.
